Travel
We love to travel (Nate especially!), and we're blessed to have been able to take some amazing trips over the years. Here we've attempted to give you a glimpse into some of the trips we've taken through photos and captions. Nate traveled around the world, and posted his pictures and commentaries here.
Paris & Germany Trip
In August 2007, we spent a week in Paris and 4 days in Meersburg, a small town in southern Germany. We really enjoyed both cities, although Meersburg was especially enchanting to us. Nate got to use some of his high school German there, and we toured a castle, took a boat ride, and ate lots of delicious food. We would definitely go back to Meersburg again someday if we had the opportunity. Overall, we loved exploring the two very different areas of Europe.

Notre Dame Church in Paris, the first site we saw

An attractive street corner in Paris that looked very photogenic as we passed by

The Jardin du Luxembourg surrounding the French Parliament building (a former palace)

The Luxembourg had beautiful gardens

Our hotel, the Lenox Montparnasse

The room was small, but we got free Wi-Fi!

The Latin Quarter was very classy

We found this charming street in the St. Germain district

A view of Paris from the 56th floor of the Tour Montparnasse, the first skyscraper built in Paris

The Eiffel Tower really stands out

Nate took our picture in the mirror

Champs Élysées, with the Arc de Triomphe in the background, which Napoleon built in the 1800s

The Louvre, the city's most famous museum

The catacombs—a quarry system 150 feet below the city. It was used to hold the bones of 6 million people when cemeteries got overcrowded in the late 1800s.

Le Select, which was one of the most famous Parisian restaurants in the 1920s

A country town that Jen photographed during the train ride to Germany

Our bed in Germany—it took some getting used to!

Our hotel, Gasthoff zum Bären—the one with the round tower at the center of the square. The current building was built in 1604.

With scarcely a car around, UPS is on the job

A German soft pretzel

We saw many vineyards in the Meersburg

We rented a little e-boot (electric boat) and putted around Lake Constance, also called the Boden Sea.

Here's a photo from the boat looking back at the restaurant-lined waterfront.

It was obvious that Lake Constance is a real summer vacation spot. There were lots of sailboats out on the water and here are two in the process of docking.

The streets were very sloped

We loved the beautiful waterfront

Nate's fancy dinner at our hotel

The full moon cast a dreamy glow on the water

As we wandered through town, we found a house that was selling produce. We bought a kilo of apples.

Her colorful garden and shed

We found many lovely gardens in Meersburg

This house had grape vines climbing up its walls

The German architecture is very distinct

We posed for our own picture

Meersburg has an upper burg and a lower burg. This is a shot of the lower burg from the castle above.
