Oct 18, 02:06 PM
For anyone who knows Silas well, his first word will come as no surprise—cat! He spends lots of time each day tirelessly chasing the cats and pulling out fur. Poor little Leo is so tolerant and docile with Silas, undergoing relentless ear and tail pulling in the name of friendship. We’re thankful that he’s a gentle cat, because he’s not declawed. Silas has barely suffered more than a minor scratch or two since he started crawling in August. (We are teaching him “gentle”, and he’s finally starting to pat Leo more often…hopefully that will eventually replace the grabbing.)
On Thursday morning, Silas was reaching for Yuri while his special instructor and I looked on. Yuri has no patience for Silas, and runs away at the first hint of danger. So Yuri took off, and Silas turned back to us, looking disappointed. Clear as a bell he said “cat”, just once. He hasn’t said it since, so I suspect that he was distracted at the time and not thinking about it. He forgot that he didn’t know how to say “cat”.
Silas has lots of other favorite sounds right now: Guk, bop, pop, da-da, dat, dis, ta (which means cat), ba-ba, ca, and ma-ma.
